THE COFFEE IN ESPÍRITO SANTO
Coffee cultivation is the main agricultural activity of Espírito Santo, developed in all municipalities of Espírito Santo (except Vitória). It generates around 400 thousand direct and indirect jobs and is present in 60 thousand of the 90 thousand agricultural properties of the State. Altogether, 73% of the capixabas producers are family-based, with the average size of properties on 8 hectares. There are 131 thousand families producing in the state.
THE COFFEE IN BRAZIL
Brazil is the world's largest producer and exporter of coffee, and the second largest consumer of the product, currently has an estimated coffee plant of 2.25 million hectares. There are about 287 thousand producers, predominantly small and medium producers, in approximately 1,900 municipalities, which are part of associations and cooperatives, and are distributed in 15 states around Brazil.
THE BLACK PEPPER
The area of black pepper in Espírito Santo has increased in recent years due to the historical increase of product prices in this period, consequently increasing productivity in the State. According to SEAG, in the first half of 2013, almost 3,600 tons of black pepper were exported to the United States and several countries in Europe and Asia, which is growing.
BLACK PEPPER
Black pepper is classified into 3 types, according to their density, Asta (580 grams per liter), B1 (550 grams per liter) and B2 (500 grams per liter). Nowadays, most of the importing countries are unwanted, the smell of smoke in the black pepper, coming from the inadequate process of drying, in a direct fire dryer.
CLOVES
In Brazil, practically only Bahia produces this spice commercially in the Southern Lowlands region, represented by the municipalities of Valença, Ituberá, Taperoá, Camamu and Nilo Peçanha, being these the main producers and more to the Southeast the municipality of Una. According to the Ceplac, the planted area is estimated about 8,000 hectares and production of 4,000 tons per year. The cultivation is done by small and medium farmers and goes from September to February.
